“Where’s the Snow?” 200 Parkites will put a Local Perspective on a Global Problem
200 children will line up at PCMR on Saturday to show their commitment to fighting climate change
Park City, UT- Children representing sports teams, schools and youth groups will gather on Saturday, August 29th to create a visual depiction of climate change’s effect on Park City’s snowpack. The event will be recorded via video and photography. The product of “Where’s the Snow” will be a short film about the event that shows climate change’s potential impact on the local snowpack and economy, and will utilize data from a study commissioned by The Park City Foundation, with support from Park City Mountain Resort. This film will premiere at the second Save our Snow - scheduled for September 30th at the Eccles Center.
“Children will line up at the top of Payday lift- about 8,200 feet. This is where we will have skiable snowpack during early December and Spring break in 2050- not below and not at the current base,” says Brent Giles of Park City Mountain Resort. The full study will be presented to the community at the September 30th Save Our Snow event.
Katy Wang, volunteer for The Park City Foundation (PCF) and environmental educator, is the event’s lead organizer. States Wang: “We have fantastic participation from area youth groups including the Park City Ski team, the Lacrosse Team, The Youth Winter Sports Alliance, the Park City Snowboard Team, Girl Scout Troop 397 and local schools.”
“Climate Change is a global problem- but we can act locally,” says Trisha Worthington Executive Director of PCF. “We want to raise awareness about climate change and empower people to make changes in their lifestyle.” Where’s the Snow? kicks off a community wide green initiative. This includes Save Our Snow II, October Green month, ParkCityGreen.org website launch and a series of short films.
Lift tickets to participate in Where’s the Snow? were limited to 200 and are currently unavailable due to the number of children and families already signed up. However, the entire Park City community is invited to gather at the top of PCMR’s Payday lift by 9:00 am on Saturday, August 29th if they would like to be a part of the community photo and/or show their support for Save Our Snow.
