There is Only One. Park City

Vail Resorts has linked two of North America’s greatest ski areas – creating the largest resort in the United States with 7,300 acres of skiable terrain. Stay up to date on the progress we're making towards 7,300 acres below.

We are excited to announce that all of our $50 million in mountain improvement projects for this historic season will be ready for Christmas week

The new Quicksilver Gondola that connects Park City and Canyons creating America’s largest ski resort opened on Dec. 17th.  The brand new Miners Camp restaurant is open as of Dec. 4th. Renovations of Summit House and Red Pine restaurants are open as of our opening weekend. Increased snowmaking on Iron Mountain and trail widening on Chicane opened during the week of Dec. 14. And of course the upgraded Motherlode detachable high-speed 4-pack and the upgraded high-speed King-Con 6-pack are scheduled to open during the week of Dec. 21.

Vail Resorts to Invest an Unprecedented $50 million in One Season — Dec. 8, 2014

Vail Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: MTN) today announced details of the company’s planned upgrades to Park City Mountain Resort for the 2015-2016 ski season. The plan, which totals over $50 million, is one of the most ambitious and impactful capital programs in U.S. ski industry history.

Planned Improvements:

The Quicksilver Gondola

The eight-passenger, high-speed Quicksilver Gondola will run from the base of Silverlode Lift to the Flatiron Lift.  When conditions allow, gondola passengers will be able to unload at the top of Pinecone Ridge and ski or ride directly down Thaynes Canyon trail. The Quicksilver Gondola connection will create the single largest ski resort in the United States.

Upgrades to Park City's King Con and Motherlode Lifts

King Con will be upgraded from a 4-person to 6-person high-speed detachable chair, meaning increased lift capacity. Motherlode will switch from a fixed-grip triple to a 4-person high-speed detachable, similarly improving the number of guests it can carry.

New Miners Camp Restaurant, Summit House Upgrade and Red Pine Lodge Expansion

A new Miners Camp Restaurant will replace the former Snow Hut restaurant to include 500 indoor seats and a state of the art kitchen. Miners Camp will be located next to the base of the Silverlode Lift and the Quicksilver Gondola terminal. Meanwhile, upgrades to Summit House will improve the flow of diners and increase seating. On the other side of the mountain, Red Pine Lodge will be renovated to the tune of 250 more indoor seats. To whet your appetite, here’s a conceptual rendering of what the Quicksilver Gondola terminal and the new Miners Camp Restaurant could look like.

Improvements depicted and described are proposed and are shown for conceptual purposes only in locations which are approximate. Proposed improvements are subject to modification and the receipt of required approvals.

Snowmaking and Other Improvements

The plan rounds out with additional snowmaking on two trails in the Iron Mountain area, and a widening of the Chicane trail, to handle increased skier traffic for Quicksilver Gondola access. We’ll also be putting another $5 million into other various maintenance projects around Park City.

For the 2015-2016 ski season, the company will operate the two resorts as one unified branded experience under the name "Park City”. The Canyons base area will be renamed "Canyons Village". The company will continue to maintain the unique history and atmosphere of the two base areas with differentiated marketing for the diverse hotel and hospitality experiences. Check the Park City Newsroom for updates throughout this next exciting year of growth!
