We received a lot of snow of the past week, here's why some areas of our mountain are still not safe for skiing and riding.

With storms in our near future, we've started working in the Upper Mountain.

We’ve been getting a little bit of snow lately. No huge storms to get excited about, but a few inches a week have certainly helped freshen things up.

"So why can't we just open more stuff?" you're thinking. "The mountain looks white and I see all those tracks under Silverlode." The reality is, for the most part it goes beyond just having snow on a run.

In the Snow Safety Department we often take a different look at early storms. Understand that snow never just sits there waiting for more snow; it is constantly changing.

If all continues on track, we plan to have Jupiter lift at Park City Mountain Resort open Thursday morning.

I took note of today's date and realized we're at a halfway point. Halfway through summer, halfway to next winter; however you prefer to look at it.

I ran the numbers for the cycle and from January 18 to 28 we picked up 79 inches in Jupiter and 60 at the Summit.

The resort finally looks like a ski mountain and conditions are just unreal. Patrollers and locals alike have had more good powder days in a row than many of us can remember.

We just finished the last day, everyone in my group did there first official "blind" test.

Zeke is doing great, Marcel loves him and he is using us as examples to demonstrate the next progression in the phase drills.

Well everything went well getting here; Zeke slept for about 8 hours on the flight and stared at people the other 2 hours.

I'm so very sad to say that it looks like Mark Wolling of the Jackson Hole Ski Patrol will not survive the night.

Tomorrow morning at sunrise we will be up on Pinecone Ridge. We plan to shoot the upper end (Pinecone Bowl to Two Goons) and have it open for you by mid-morning if all goes well.

This morning at 8:30 in Jackson Hole a veteran patroller, Mark Wolling was caught, buried, and injured in an avalanche while doing control work.

Our 24 hour total is 8 inches which the wind has pushed around into pillows a couple feet deep.

Jupiter Chair, Main Bowl, and the West Face will open tomorrow morning when the resort opens.

On Friday evenings we, the patrol, gather at our local pub for some end of week decompression. As part of this "safety meeting" we have a tradition of presenting one patroller with the Bad Judgment Award, otherwise known as the Stick of Dumb.
