Thursday night update

I'm torn between posting on two unrelated subjects tonight. First, thanks for the response to my post about Big Wally and all your good thoughts. He's still in critical condition in Idaho Falls; updated info can be found again at The Jackson Hole Daily page.

On what I suppose is a somewhat related topic, we caught 2 locals ducking a rope into the Closed Avalanche area today below the Pinecone run-out. Scott's bowl is all bumped-out and they thought they'd get in a few extra turns in some untracked snow. Too bad for them that Colin, Burt and I were in Scott's Bowl and caught them in the act. These two young men are long-time locals and season pass holders and (until now) considered friends of the patrol. Now that they have chosen to take advantage of that relationship, we have chosen to take their passes for a few weeks if not longer. And this is sad for them on another level which leads me to my final subject:

Tomorrow morning at sunrise we will be up on Pinecone Ridge. We plan to shoot the upper end (Pinecone Bowl to Two Goons) and have it open for you by mid-morning if all goes well. Too bad for our two ex-patrol friends/ex-pass holders who couldn't wait a day. For the rest of you, hope to see you up there. Now time for bed 'cause 4am will be here all too soon.
