Remember my post a couple weeks ago where I wondered "When can we get to the upper Mountain to get our favorite areas open?" Well, we finally seem to be moving ourselves up into those zones. Yesterday we opened the McConkey's area for the season. David (one of our Snow Safety Supervisors) and I put our skins on our skis and worked our way up to Jupiter Peak to protect the McConkey's perimeter with some explosive testing. We triggered no big avalanches, but it was a gorgeous morning and great to get back up to "the Peak." The McConkey's opening went smooth and a steady crowd of locals and out of town guests had their share of late November powder skiing.
Of course, after we shot our way up Pinion Ridge to the peak, David and I had to get back down. After a little discussion of our observations and the lack of any apparent instability, we decided to jump into one of our favorite and secluded lines, P-Zone. You can see from our "signatures" that conditions are getting good for opening up more upper mountain terrain. Tomorrow, we'll venture into the Jupiter area to start setting things up there. I'm sure I'll have a report on that mission soon.
