Holiday Events in Park City
— Posted by Andy on December 1, 2012
Far be it for me to take exception with Perry Como, but in my opinion, "there's no place like home Park City for the holidays." In fact, it was my family's Christmas vacation 23 years ago when I was introduced to Park City and it remains one of the most special weeks my family has ever spent together. Almost a quarter of a century later, we still share memories from that week - and have been returning to Park City ever since.
World-class skiing and riding, Main Street lit up for the season, and amazing restaurants and nightlife are just the beginning of what makes this time of year so special here, whether you're in town for a week or a born-and-bred local. Here's a rundown of just some of the events going on in town and on our mountain for the holiday season - a chance to make memories that perhaps your own family will be talking about 25 years from now.
December 1: Community Tree-Lighting Ceremony
Park City's Community Tree is lit at Miners Park at 5:30 p.m., but that's just part of the fun. Street entertainers perform from 3-5 p.m. before carolers take over from 5-7 p.m. Santa, himself, will also be stopping by for photos.
December 15: Santa Comes Down Town Lift
Join Park City Mountain Resort as we welcome Santa, Rudolph and all the reindeer to Park City's Historic Main Street. The evening is filled with hot chocolate, holiday treats and music as we wait for Santa to fly in on Town Lift. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m at Town Lift Plaza.
December 21: Electric Parade on Main Street
Cars, buses, trucks and all sorts of vehicles festooned in holiday lights and inflatable decorations glide up Main Street. Awards are presented for "Best Christmas Spirit," "Most True to Authentic Park City" and "Best in Show." The parade starts at 6 p.m. I'd tell you to keep your eyes peeled but it's impossible to miss.
December 24: Park City Mountain Resort's Traditional Torchlight Parade and Christmas Eve Celebration
Enjoy holiday music, hot beverages and cookies on the Park City Mountain Resort Plaza at sunset before watching our ski and snowboard school instructors, followed closely by Santa, wind down PayDay trail for a traditional torchlight parade - a tradition as old as the Resort, itself. Admission and refreshments are free. During the day, keep an eye out around the Resort for Santa as he gets in his Christmas Eve turns before heading out on his sleigh for the big night!
