4 Reasons There's Nowhere Better to Learn than at Park City Mountain Resort

All the years I came to Park City as a guest, I assumed every man, woman and child within the city limits had been on skis or a snowboard since before they could speak. Since moving here, however, I've met all sorts of people who have never been out on the mountain for a variety of reasons - many of them perfectly understandable.

But Park City Mountain Resort has worked hard to make skiing and snowboarding accessible to people of all ages who have never ever tried a snowsport before (or "never-evers," as we call them). Whether you're a visiting guest shy about getting on the mountain or a local who's had trouble finding the time or money (let's face it: outerwear, equipment and lift tickets keep skiing and snowboarding from being the world's cheapest sports) to try, we've got ways to make learning accessible, easy and - most importantly - fun. As we observe Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month during January, there's never a better time to learn - but remember these programs and features are available throughout the season (with some restrictions)!

1. Small Classes: One of my favorite Park City Mountain Resort lesson features is the limit of 5 students to an instructor in all of our lesson programs. Whether it's a little one in our Kids Signature program, a teen in our "I Ride Park City" Freestyle Camp or an adult in any of our clinics or group lessons - small class sizes ensure everyone gets the personal attention to get the most out of their lesson.

2. StartNOW Makes it Affordable: There's also our special learn-to-ski (or snowboard) program exclusively for Utah residents, StartNOW. StartNOW is for "never-evers" of all ages: providing 5 sessions of lift access, afternoon lessons and equipment rentals for snowsport rookies as young as 6 and up to any age of adult. My wife learned how to snowboard through StartNOW a year ago and got herself hooked: logging almost 40 days last season and continuing the momentum again this year. Best of all, all 5 of those sessions are a total of $200 - that's $40 a day!

3. Beginner Equipment: Speaking of equipment, Park City Mountain Rentals features early-rise skis and Learn to Ride snowboards built specifically for the beginner in mind - helping never-evers make their first turns easier than ever before.

4. Great Learning Terrain: Once you've got your gear, you'll find spots all over the mountain that are perfect for learning - and our instructors know them all! Find one of our flat, groomed runs to get your legs under you, or take your time in our learning zone - nearly an acre of space fenced off for beginner skiers and snowboarders of any age, served by magic carpet conveyor lifts that eliminate the stress of loading or unloading from a chairlift. The Resort even built a man-made slope with the perfect pitch for beginning snowboard instruction!

There's a lot of reasons for putting off learning to ski or snowboard, but we like to think we've come up with answers to just about all of them here at Park City Mountain Resort. Come have some fun with us and give it a shot - you might just get hooked!
