Bike and Tread Lightly Please

There have been more than a few days which have felt like summer was already here in Park City, but we do have to remind ourselves that it was only winter just a few weeks ago and that many biking and hiking trails need some time to dry out. Until just recently, we've been using snowmobiles and snowcats to access almost all of our upper mountain - everything from our King Shop and up, so I know that we will most likely not have much available for hiking and biking when we open for summer operations on May 24, 2013 - in fact, I recommend checking our Activities Report (updated daily during the summer season) to know for sure what activities are available!

See this photo taken from the Summit Cam on May 15, 2013 to see how much snow there still is by the trail map at the top of Bonanza Lift.

Read this post on the Mountain Trails website for a much better explanation of why we should all avoid travel on muddy trails - it might be fun to get "dirty", but you're actually doing a lot more damage to the trail than you might think. On the Mountain Trails interactive map, there is also a helpful "Conditions" toggle in the menu which shows the current status of trails in the Park City area. This is a great tool, because while it may seem like summer down here in the Park City valley, there will still be pockets of winter for some time to come.
