Change in the Weather?

It feels like we've already posted more and had more comments about the weather and weather forecast this season than in the past three seasons of blogging combined! But now, at last, I think we are starting to see the weather shift that we've all been waiting for. Here's the forecast we got from our forecaster Joe this morning:
Another fairly quiet weather day, but a cold front arrives tomorrow and it should reach us around noon or early afternoon. A couple of really good things with this front with one being a fairly strong northwest flow, and the other being some good dynamic lift. So, should be a good system, but moves through fairly rapidly. High pressure will move into the area and will be with us Tuesday and Wednesday. A very weak system moves across the area on Thursday, but looking more toward the weekend when we see bigger changes in the flow pattern!
These maps are the 8-14 day temperature and precipitation forecast from the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, and by the way, their 6-10 prediction doesn't look too shabby either.
are more runs going to be open this week? im flying im this saturday and disappointed to see only 3 runs open so far. I would rather not have to drive to snowbird
Eric replies:
Ed, we're opening Treasure Hollow tomorrow and perhaps Bonanza lift on Friday...we'll update here as soon as we know more...btw, we'd rather not have you have to drive either ;)

Coming 12/13 for 5 nights and 4 days of skiing.
How much of PCMR will be able to get open based on today's snow?
Of the 3 resorts...which will be able to have the most trails open with today's snow.
Read your blog multiple times a day.
I will never schedule a trip this early again. :<
Eric replies:
Brent, check out current snow totals at our Summit stake at http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/getobext.php?wfo=slc&graph=off&hourly=1&sid=pct and you can see that we picked up an inch or two, but no big amounts out of this front.
Temperatures are ideal for snowmaking right now and we're opening Treasure Hollow run tomorrow and perhaps Bonanza Lift for the weekend. I think all three of the PC area resorts are in the same boat with opening up more terrain, we'd like to open everything, but we just need more white stuff!
Early seasons can be great and they can also be like this, unfortunately we're in a weather dependent business...:-(

I've been watching the weather every day and it's great to see you guys finally getting some snow today!! I wanted to ask a question about the personal mountain tours. Are the tours going to be updated to include the new lift?
Eric replies:
JinMiami, about time for some snow, eh?! We are in the process of updating the personal mountain tours, and one of the changes is indeed the addition of the new Crescent Lift to many of the tours!

WEATHER UPDATE, this morning's forecast (12/08/08) from Joe:
The cold front will move across the area later this morning and this system will come across in a couple of pieces. We'll see a period of snow with the front, then some snow showers in the afternoon, and finally another period of snow this evening with the colder temperatures aloft. A little cloudiness will linger first thing Tuesday morning, but overall fairly quiet much of the week with just a couple of weak systems brushing the area. A more significant change in the flow pattern next weekend with an area of low pressure dropping southward from the Gulf of Alaska and into the western states.

Excellent news Eric! Looks like a few inches tomorrow in town, maybe a few more up top! As usual, the long range models are keeping it cold in the Wasatch for at least a week or so! Let's pray for some moisture then too!

Shane, the more the better in my book!

I sure hope this week and weekend bring some serious snow for park city!! I'll be visiting for the first time, in about a week and a half, and it would be a shame to have to head to Alta for skiing! Hope I get to see what all the talk about Park City and Deer Valley is all about.
Eric replies:
Scott, in the Wasatch Mountains, a lot can change in a week and a half and I have a feeling that you won't need to do much driving for good skiing, see you soon!

i was at park city last year, jan.9-15. it was an epic week with snow everyday, the weather pattern looks similiar to last years, so, im praying it will be somewhat the same. cant wait to rip it up
Eric replies:
Eric, January is our snowiest month with an average of 73 inches of snow. I think we're due for some snow this month because we need some good storms to hit our December average of 71 inches!
