The Snow Dances Worked!
— Posted by Krista on November 30, 2007
After many nights of tireless dancing I am happy to report that it is FINALLY snowing in Park City! Isn't it beautiful.
It's amazing what a little snow will do to the mood around the Resort - people are smiling and exchanging pleasantries with each other.
The forecasters are calling for it to snow all night, with accumulations in the feet! If this happens we will begin to open more terrain. Our goal is to open the upper mountain next week. Get your powder skis ready, I'll see you on the slopes tomorrow. - KRP

We will be arriving the last week of December through the first week of January. What is the typical status of the slopes at that point (runs open, lifts open, depth of snow, etc.)? Thanks for the update.
Eric replies:
Allan, I really don't have averages available for a specific time like you're looking for, but I can say that we make every effort to have as much open as we possible can for the holiday time frame. We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks.

Any update on runs you expect to open in the next week or so? Thanks!
Krista replies:
Josh, we are hoping to open Bonanza Lift with access to Homerun and Jonesy's within the next week. We need to continue to have cold temperatures at night to make this happen. Right now we are experiencing an inversion, which means it's warmer on the upper mountain than it is at the base. The forecast is calling for storms to move into the area Tuesday/Wednesday, which should hopefully push the high pressure out.

On the website it said that 4 runs were open for night ski...is that correct? If not when does night ski begin?
Krista replies:
Suzanne, night skiing/riding isn't scheduled to open until December 25. PayDay and First Time lifts are open until 7:30 pm.

Yeehaw!
I have reservations for the week of Christmas, and I was beginning to get a little worried...
Looking forward to my trip.

I was on the slopes today, and was wondering why the snow machines weren't making any snow today. Also, any word on when more lifts/runs will open?
Krista replies:
Matt, There were a couple reasons why we weren't making snow on Saturday. The first is because it was too warm to make snow in the morning and by the time the temps had dropped, we had a pipe failure. The failure was fixed by 8 pm that night and we resumed snowmaking.
If we have cold temps at night this week, we are hoping to open Bonanza Lift with service to Homerun for the weekend. We'll keep you posted.

how much more terrain will this open...with runs will likely open up next and which one on the upper mountain?
Krista replies:
Zach, the nearly foot of snow that we received last night definitely helped us in our quest to open the upper mountain. Our original goal was to open Bonanza lift with service to Homerun and Jonesy's but it looks like we may possibly be able to open more terrain We won't know for sure until the middle of next week. Check back next week!
