Park City kids are lucky. Each weekend they come to play at one of the best ski and snowboard training grounds in the country. Whether it be Saturday Adventure, Learn to Race, AMP, Farm Team, or Jr. Saturday Adventure, they have industry leading instructors and coaches. I find myself saying the following phrase nearly every weekend, "These kids have no idea how lucky they are. I wish I had this growing up."
With the quality of these youth programs, its no surprise that Park City Mountain Resort breeds an astonishing amount of Olympians. This past weekend, PCMR celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games by bringing together past, present and future Olympians to meet with members of the Resort's local youth Ski and Snowboard school programs. Ross Powers, who won gold in the 2002 Olympics at our very own Eagle Superpipe, Ashley Battersby, Park City All Star and member of the US Slopestyle team, Karen Korfanta (1968 Olympian), and ski racing phenom Daniel Demschar shared words of encouragement and presented each kid with a medal of their own and chance to stand on the podium.
I'm sure this won't be the last time many of these kids are wearing a medal and standing atop a podium. Maybe one day it will be an Olympic podium with the USA national anthem playing in the background.
