Announcing $7,000 in Grants to Local Eco-Friendly Initiatives

In December we put out a call to the Park City community, looking for ideas to help protect our local "playgrounds" - the mountains we ski and hike, the trails we ride, and the town we call home. We, along with our sister POWDR Corp resorts, pledged to provide seed money to get the most promising ideas off the ground. Over the next several months we fielded many submissions, more than we expected to receive, and today - Earth Day - we get to reveal our winners.

One winning project is a local pilot composting initiative that collects vegetative scraps from all three resorts in Park City and breaks them down in an environmentally friendly method. To date, the two guys behind the project, Collin Beach and Travis Wright, have diverted more than 70 tons of food residuals from the local landfill. In doing so, they've avoided the release of 50 tons of carbon dioxide - the equivalent of taking 10 cars off the road. Collin and Travis will put our grant toward upgrading their facility and expanding operations to additional commercial kitchens in Park City.

Another project we're helping to fund is solar-powered lights for a bank of mailboxes in a local Park City neighborhood. The mailboxes were recently vandalized one night, and money for this project will go toward the installation of a solar array and light fixture to sustainably light the mailboxes.

We're also getting behind an idea to provide incentives for local ground transportation companies to reduce their carbon emissions through a variety of methods including: switching fuel; replacing older vehicles with modern, more efficient models; providing opportunities for companies to purchase carbon credits through a third party.

We're handing out a total of $7,000 to these three great ideas, part of $40,000 that the entire family of POWDR resorts are handing out to "Protect Your Playground" winners in their respetive neighborhoods. These grant recipients are proof that one person with a vision for change can make a difference, and we look forward to following their progress!
