It’s called Powdr Shot, a summer biathlon series that's turning the traditional summer trail race on its ear with stops at our sister resorts across North America – and next weekend it’s our turn to host.
Powdr Shot mountain bike competitors concentrate at a shooting station.
Powdr Shot takes the shooting portion of the traditional biathlon and combines it with either trail running (Saturday, Jul 20) or mountain biking (Sunday, Jul 21). Separate running and biking courses are designed for beginners, intermediates and experts – and no, you don't have to be a sharp shooter (or have any shooting experience at all) to sign up. In fact, you don't even need a gun - we're providing them!
Bikers can race either a 6, 8 or 10 mile course.
Whether you're a Weekend Warrior looking to challenge yourself, or a more easy-going adventurer up for tackling a whole new kind of race, you're welcome at Powder Shot.
Best of all, race proceeds go directly toward maintaining clean, healthy and sustainable forests in the Park City area by removing standing dead and opening forests to new growth, replanting, and responsibly using standing dead.
Racing begins at 9 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday at Gorgoza Park (take the Jeremy Ranch Exit #141 off I-80 to 3863 West Kilby Rd, Park City).
Originally from the Pocono’s of Pennsylvania, Travis found his way to Park City three years ago and is now our grooming manager. When not in snowcat you can find him skiing or snowmobiling in the Utah backcountry or enjoying the skiing here at Park City Mountain Resort.
