fullsize

Hi Snowmama I'm bringing my family (2 adults and 2 kids, ages 8 and 9) from NYC to Park City over Martin Luther King Day weekend. kids are doing sig 5 ski and sig 5 snowboard on sat/sun. any ideas as to what to do on fri afternoon, which is open - should we go to the snow park? also, thoughts on fun (for adults too...) dinner places, low brown and high brow? For the short time we're there, any must dos? thanks.

Dear Greg,

Thanks so much for sending your question to the Snowmamas! We're excited for your upcoming visit!

Lots of great options for your Friday afternoon arrival. After you check into your lodging, you might want to get all your ski and snowboard rentals set up and ready to go for the next morning, so you are all set to go. Since you are flying in from the East, don't forget to stay hydrated from the get go so everyone is in good shape for the first ski day. The altitude takes a bit of an adjustment.

Grab the water and head on over to any number of fun things to do on your first afternoon here. Here is our Top 5 Family List of Things to Do Off MountainGorgoza Tubing park will definitely be a hit with everyone. If you are looking for something a little more low key, the Olympic Park is always a great stop. If you are headed over to Park City Mountain Resort to pick up your rentals, the ice rink at the resort, as well as the Alpine Coaster and Flying Eagle Zipline are great fun for all.

As for dining, Park City has some amazing options - probably more than I have space to mention. The best part is most are family friendly, and offer great kid options, even the nicest of places. So you don't have to give up great food to please the kids. For higher end, try Riverhorse, Mustang, Chimayo, Wahso, 350 Main, Talisker on Main, Silver, or Cafe Terigo, all on Main Street. For a great steak, Prime is a good bet. For Sushi, try Yuki Yama or Shabu. If you are at the other end of town, towards the Olympic Park or Jupiter Bowl, try Maxwell's for pizza.

Our family also loves Bistro 412, Purple Sage, and Squatters for a brew pub with a great burger. Other favorites include High West Distillery, which you can ski in and out of from Park City Mountain Resort. They also have a kids menu.

With that, make the dining reservations now if you can. Next weekend is the opening of the Sundance Film Festival, so reservations will fill up fast. If you are using a service like Open Table, and there does not appear to be a reservation, perhaps give them a call.

Thanks for checking in with us, and let us know if you need any other help with your upcoming visit. That's what we are here for!

Best,

Snowmama Kristen
