Park City Farm Team

Competition training for children who want to have fun and hone their skills.

Park City Farm Team

The Farm Team is designed for children ages 7 to 11 (as of January 1, 2013) with prior race experience and at the parallel skiing level. Although this program has produced many top competitors, our primary goal is to instill enthusiasm for skiing and improve sound basic skiing skills for racing.

Training race courses, timed runs, video, and other teaching aids will be used as needed to help with the development of the young skiers. The goals of the program are:

  1. To experience the fun and feel a part of the enthusiasm alpine skiing generates.
  2. For young skiers to learn and develop solid basic techniques for racing and free skiing.
  3. To provide skiers with the opportunity to be involved in a team atmosphere, with other skiers of similar age and ability.
  4. To provide a training ground for future racers.

Carefully selected ski instructors from the Park City Ski and Snowboard School staff the Farm Team. These instructors have been chosen for their knowledge, enthusiasm, and skills in working with young skiers. This highly qualified staff understands the challenge in teaching the sport of alpine ski racing to young people. Each instructor makes it a personal challenge to offer the best possible opportunity for each participant to his or her capability within a reasonable comfort level. Each skier will be assigned to a group and will stay with that group throughout the program.

As a member of the Farm Team, each child will need to be licensed through United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) and will become a member of the Youth Ski League (YSL) of the USSA. Along with regular newsletters geared for the young skier, the YSL membership will allow each young skier to participate in three races plus Championships at other ski areas as well as Park City.

The Farm Team runs over 12 weeks consisting of 24 day sessions and 6 evening sessions, including 2 races with the YSL and the YSL Championships. The day begins at 9:00am and goes until 3:00pm. Skiers break for lunch under the supervision of the coach.

Park City Ski and Snowboard School acknowledges that parents are an integral part of the success of the child and the program. This requires a significant commitment by parents and the young athlete. Parental moral support for the athlete is extremely important, including the necessary sacrifice of time and money.
