I Married a Non-Skier
My Husband Likes Football, Not Skiing
My family had a tradition of skiing on Super Bowl Sunday. No crowds, no lines. It was the best ski day of the year. My husband Gary's family had a tradition of watching the Super Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday. Other winter Sundays were filled with, well, more football. Or floor hockey. Or ice fights. Here he is with his siblings.
Yes, I married a non-skier. Funny story: before we got married I was actually in a brief period of being a non-skier. It was right around the time that he was a non-football fan. Make of that what you will. But that didn’t last. A few years later, when our son was about eighteen months old, we headed to Park City with my family for the first of many trips together. Gary became acquainted with some alpine alternatives to skiing, which have served us all well over the years. Here are a few of our favorites:
Tubing at Gorgoza Park – Resist the urge to call it Gorgonzola Park, though you wouldn't be the first one if you did. Gorgoza Park is an absolute blast and a ride that everyone can enjoy.
Snowshoeing – A great alternative to a day on the slopes. Lighter clothes, no crowds and so, so quiet. You can find out more information about Park City snowshoeing here.
Take the Kiddies Bowling – Sometimes conditions aren't ideal and you need an alternative. This Jupiter Bowl has bowling, pool, video games, pool and a full bar.
So don't feel too badly for my non-skiing husband. Park City has plenty to do for the skier and non-skier alike. I'd tell you more, but I have a football game to watch.
