Books to Cuddle Up with on a Snowy Winter Vacation
Here are three wonderful picture books for children up to age 8 that are all available in easy traveling paperback from Scholastic Books and ideal for visiting snowy places.
Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner
Ever wonder, “What DO snowmen do at night?” They sneak down to the park and have a rollicking good time in this book. Plenty of sledding, snowball fights, skating, even snow baseball. This book will have your whole family excited about playing in the snow.
Harold at the North Pole by Crockett Johnson
Harold's magic purple crayon gets him in and out of all sorts of trouble in the snow as he searches for a Christmas tree. I love Harold books because they allow children to use their imagination about what they would do with their own purple crayon. This book is also great because it is long for a picture book, so we have literally gotten many miles out of our copy during flights to and from the mountains.
Poppleton in Winter by Cynthia Rylant
Poppleton books are just right for winding down at bedtime. Each Poppleton book has three short stories that either make you chuckle or have a kind message. In this volume's first story, Poppleton the pig has an adventure with icicles that results with Poppleton making a new friend. The second story talks about how Poppleton chooses a craft to do each winter, resulting in a funny run-in with his llama neighbor, Cherry Sue. Finally, Poppleton is surprised by his animal friends with a midnight sleigh ride on his birthday.
These stories will send your children off to bed with sweet dreams.
