Snowmamas Meetup - April and Jeff
"I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want- So tell me what you want, what you really really want". The lyrics to this "Spice Girls" song brought on a new meaning on our recent trip to Park City and no I didn't sing it at Cowboy Karaoke night as I will leave that to the queen of karaoke, Krista Parry.
Who made the trip and what we wanted?
For those that know me it's no surprise that this trip included my wife Keri and our 16 year old snowboarding nephew Carter. Very few trips are made to Park City without Carter and we wouldn't have it any other way! We all had our own WANTS for this trip as my wife and I wanted to take our "game" to the next level and Carter wanted to spend his days at The Ridge Terrain Park perfecting new tricks.
How we spent our time
Thursday - Our day started later than usual with our late night arrival, but we didn't mind as we knew that once we got on the slopes all would be forgotten. We decided that we would spend the morning riding together as a family and then Carter would go to his favorite place on the mountain, The Ridge Terrain Park, after lunch at The SnowHut. The runs that were open all had great coverage and the groomers did an excellent job with what Mother Nature has given them along with what has been made. A special Thanks goes to Brent Giles and his mountain operations team for all the hard work they do each night to get the slopes ready for us to enjoy! Later that night we ate dinner at our usual first night spot, Baja Cantina, and then ventured to Java Cow on Main Street for some ice cream.
Friday - We got up early and started out with breakfast at Legacy Lodge, since Carter loves their thick sliced bacon and biscuits with jelly. After breakfast we made our plans for the day and where we would meet for lunch, as well as our afternoon meetup time/place. Carter went up to The Ridge, while Keri and I made a few runs before the Snowmamas/Snowpapas meetup. We met an amazing person at the Snowmamas meetup, April Simpson (aka @producergirl), and made some runs with her from the top to the bottom. It was great to finally meet her in person, and get to know more about her, as we have communicated online through the Snowmamas Advisory Council on Facebook and Twitter. After a fab lunch at The Summit House we made some afternoon runs and then made our way to Legacy Lodge to drink some hot chocolate until Carter came down. We had a GREAT dinner at Squatters and reflected back on the days adventures and all that we had accomplished.
Saturday - Today was the BIG day as the Snow Blessing from the Northern UTE Indian tribe was to take place. We decided to go the top to make a few runs off Silverlode and Bonanza lifts, while Carter went to The Ridge, before meeting back up at The Legacy Lodge for lunch and the Snow Blessing. The Snow Blessing was great to watch from the Legacy Lodge balcony and the tribe did a great job as evidenced by the snow storms that would later start to approach Park City in the coming days. We decided that for dinner we would get pizza to go from Maxwells- Fat Kid's pizza and watch the Giants-Packers game back at the condo.
Sunday - After a hearty breakfast at Legacy Lodge we decided that we would go up and take a video of Carter going thru The Ridge Terrain Park. We later took off to Silverlode, Bonanza and King Con lifts and met Carter for lunch at The Summit House. For dinner we all decided on Bandits Grill and the meal was great! Of course, after dinner we had to go to Java Cow and while there witnessed teenagers trying to climb up on the cow...still laughing from it!
Monday - It started snowing and was very cold at both the base and up on the mountain. Since this was our last day we decided that we would let Carter go to The Ridge while we spent the day shopping and lounging at the Legacy Lodge. As we left Park City that afternoon we were all depressed, but also excited as we had achieved all our personal WANTS and the biggest one left was on the west coast horizon just waiting to slam Park City with SNOW!
