Like a growing number of Americans, I have a gluten allergy. Although more and more restaurants are offering alternatives for food allergies like mine, it’s surprising how few and far between they are. And often times what is considered an allergy-free alternative is not always very appetizing. This tends to make traveling a challenge. I always bring some of my own snacks to keep from going hungry.
When visiting Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR) in December, I had an opportunity to meet Brian Prusse, PCMR Chef de Cuisine. He explained his philosophy on fresh, locally sourced and homemade menu items, including gluten-free baked goods. It was an impressive commitment to quality. When he mentioned that any sandwich or burger could be ordered gluten-free, he had my attention. When he said that the bread was from a local bakery and I sampled the results, I might have fallen in love.

In order to do accurate reporting, some taste tests were in order. I tried the gluten-free fish tacos at Legends Bar and Grill, they were flavorful and filling - especially with some nachos on the side. My daughter had them as well and loved them. The next day I had a burger in the Legacy Café – I haven’t had a real hamburger in such a long time. The burgers are grilled to order and definitely worth the wait. I enjoyed every bite. There are also yummy muffins in Kristi's Coffee Café, and gluten-free pizza crusts at PayDay Pizza. I learned that there were high-quality, thoughtful gluten-free options at most PCMR restaurants, so many choices that did I not go hungry, in fact I might have gained a little weight.
Tip: If you don’t see a gluten-free option on the menu, ask. I found the cooks and servers to be knowledgeable and very accommodating. This accommodation extends beyond food allergies, and includes requests from children who don’t want certain foods to touch - not that I know anyone like that.

My mom had to go gluten-free last year so I'm always on the lookout for restaurants who cater to that. Kudos to PCMR for adding yet another reason to visit.
