Summer in the Mountains Packing Tips and List
Park City, Utah is set to play host to Evo'11, a conference aimed at the evolution of women in social media. Many people have been asking what they should pack for “summer in the mountains”. Here are three tips to make your packing easier:
1) Think Casual and Comfortable - Park City has a casual mountain atmosphere and the dress code is similar. Whether you are learning from experts in a conference, eating a fancy dinner on historic Main Street or a casual lunch at Park City Mountain Resort, anything goes. I have seen my fair share of jeans and bolo ties at “Black-Tie Affairs”. The goal is comfort and you determine what that means to you. I am sure there are a lot of people who wouldn’t be “comfortable” in my Alpine Slide shoe selection, but I am!
2) Layer at Night – Park City's summer temperatures average in the mid to high 70's, however once the sun goes down the temps can drop 20 degrees. Make sure you bring a cardigan or light jacket to wear for your night out on the town. The key to being comfortable is layering for chilly mornings or nights.
3) Protect Yourself - Located at 6,90 feet, the sun seems to shine brighter in Park City. Always wear sunscreen and sunglasses to protect yourself from sun exposure. You don’t want to spend your vacation in the hotel room layered with aloe… or even worse, at the optometrist treating your sunburned eyes! Read more tips from Go Sun Smart.
Below is a packing list that I would use for my summer vacation to the mountains.
Summer in the Mountains Packing List
- Shorts (for playing outdoors during the day)
- Short sleeve shirts
- Lightweight Cardigan or jacket
- Sturdy shoes/hiking boots
- Sandals/Cowboy boots for night attire
- Long Pants or jeans for chilly nights
- Dress/skirt/slacks (if you aspire to be Carrie Bradshaw in the mountains, like me!)
- Sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- Water bottle
- Umbrella (10 minute afternoon rain showers can occur even on the hottest days of the year)
What did I forget? What would you change? I would love to hear your feedback in the comments.

I'd add a lip balm with a sunscreen to the list! Other then that - excellent and practical list for packing.

I found this just in time! I'm packing for EVO, my iPhone says 88 degrees, but now I know it will be cold at night so will also pack sweaters.
Also plan to rock the Alpine Slide in my heels!
