Mom's Day Off: Top 5 Things to Do in Park City
"Mom" and "day off" in the same sentence? C'mon...say it with me now!
I know quite a few moms who wouldn't necessarily put skiing at the top of their vacation wish list. Palm trees? Definitely. Cold snowy days on a mountain? Not so much. By the time you get your whole brood packed, fed, and dressed for the slopes, you're ready for a nap.
Unlock the secret of great vacations that other moms have discovered! Ski towns can be filled with great things to do, so why not drop off your family on the mountain and head out for a "me" day?
One of the reasons our family returns to Park City year after year is for the vibrant town with endless activities. Even if you aren't the slightest bit interested in hopping on a chairlift, there is something for you.
Bring your Visa, because there is great shopping in Park City. Main Street in Old Town is filled with boutiques, souvenir shops, art galleries, and ski shops. Head down to Redstone for more galleries and shops. You can even paint pottery at Color Me Mine. Across the street are the Tanger Outlets, with a huge assortment of name brands stores with great prices and selection.
The spas in Park City are top notch and abundant. For the full experience, try the Golden Door Spa at the Waldorf Astoria or Spa Montage . They are swanky and pricey, but offer amazing facilities to keep you "busy" for the whole day. If you don't have as much time, Serenity Spa at Westgate, Align Spa, Rain Spa at Lespri, and Mountain Body Spa offer wonderful treatments.
3. Eat Your Heart Out
Park City is filled to the brim with world class restaurants. With so many great places it's hard to keep track, but a favorite for lunch is Cafe Terigo. The warm afternoon sunlight flooding this cozy place is hard to beat.
4. Cross Country Skiing or Snowshoeing
White Pine Touring offers groomed ski trails, cross country ski lessons, and all necessary equipment and accessories for a nominal fee. Check their schedule for guided snowshoe and cross-country ski tours.
5. Peace and Quiet
The most coveted activity for moms? Relax and do NOTHING. Not for the whole trip, of course, but a day here or there. Don't get me wrong - there are endless things to do in Park City. Check out the Park City Chamber/Bureau website for a full list of activities, events, museums, galleries, and theaters. But as a mom, when I say day off, I mean it. There are big cozy fireplaces in every nook around town, just waiting for you to sit next to them with a good book. While you are at it, hit the hot tub when it's empty, and follow up with a nap. Your family will come home exhausted after a day on the slopes, and you'll feel refreshed and ready to enjoy your evening together.
Did I really just suggest "nothing" as a top 5 activity? You bet I did. When was the last time you did nothing? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that, which is why it made the list.
Next time your family suggests a ski vacation, don't hesitate to run with the idea. You'll have amazing days with your family on the mountain, and get to take some much deserved time for yourself. Tell your family this Snowmama told you to!
