Music in the Mountains: Park City’s Hills are Alive with Free Summer Concerts
Summer is in full swing here in Park City and there’s plenty of great concerts on tap to enjoy. While our small town is renowned for our dining and art scene, the menu of outdoor concert options and local music are also a standout. And the best part - drumroll please - many of them are free and very kid-friendly!
For all shows, bring-your-own blankets and chairs, and don’t forget a warm layer to keep the chill away after the sun goes down.
Here’s a sampling of some free local favorites...
Frontier Bank Community Concert Series
6-8pm Wednesdays
Deer Valley
A longtime local favorite, the Wednesday night concerts series outgrew its longtime home in City Park and moved up to Deer Valley several years ago to accommodate the growing crowd of locals and visitors who gather with picnics, hula-hoops and more to hear some of Park City’s top local musicians. Offering plenty of grassy room for the kids to dance and explore, the Deer Valley venue is the perfect picnic spot. Stop by the Park City Farmer’s Market (12-6pm Wednesdays at The Canyons parking area off SR 224) and pack a basket with some local treats, or pick-up a dinner at the show from the Deer Valley concession stand - the Nachos covered in Deer Valley’s signature Turkey Chili are especially yummy. Visit www.mountaintownmusic.org for the lineup of 2010 shows.
Plaza Palooza
6pm Thursdays
Silver Star Plaza, 1835 Three Kings Dr
New to the local music scene, the Silver Star Plaza venue features cozy outdoor seating and a fun menu from the Silver Star Market. Work up an appetite before the show by renting a beach cruiser from Silver Star Sport (www.silverstarskiandsport.com) and exploring the neighborhood on two-wheels. The shop offers a “CRUISERPALOOZA” special - $16 for bike rental and food.
Newpark Town Center
6-8pm Thursdays
Travel to the north side of town to Newpark - Park City’s new shopping and entertainment district. Newpark’s Amphitheater features live music and fun for the whole family while overlooking the Swaner Nature Preserve. Picnics are welcome, but plenty of great take-out options neighbor the venue including Maxwell’s East Coast Eatery (try their Fat Kid Pizza), Good Thymes, Kneader’s Cafe, Cafe Rio (their Taco Salad is a standout) and Whole Foods. Visit www.mountaintownmusic.org for show details.
