Mondays with Mary: Why Can Kids Learn to Ski before Snowboarding?
Why can kids learn to ski before snowboarding?
All children do develop differently, however snowboarding requires more fine motor skill that skiing initially does. I would not recommend kids take up snowboarding in a group lesson until they are at least six because they may struggle. Learning to snowboard is challenging. You could consider starting your child earlier in a one-on-one private lesson. I have seen a few four and five year old children who can snowboard. However, that is not the norm.
I would recommend that parents start their children skiing if younger than 6, and then let them try snowboarding the following year.
