Park City Ski & Snowboard School

Planning for Arrival

Preparation prior to your lesson is key to ensure your best day with Ski & Snowboard School.  The following checklists and tips will help guide you for greater enjoyment, learning and ultimate success.

PRE-ARRIVAL CHECKLIST

  • Use the confirmation letter sent to your email address to confirm your lesson's scheduled time and date
  • Confirm your lesson location: Park City Mountain Village or Canyons Village
  • Purchase your lift ticket(s), if not already included in your lesson
  • Print and sign the Liability Waiver

UPON ARRIVAL TO THE RESORT

  • Pick up your lesson voucher, lift ticket and rental equipment as applicable to your purchase
  • Turn in your fully completed Liability Waiver(s) for all participants
  • Rental equipment can be picked up the afternoon prior to your lesson

MORNING OF YOUR LESSON

  • Eat a balanced breakfast
  • Hydrate with water
  • Grab a snack for your pocket
  • Stretch and warm up your body
  • Check the local weather and dress accordingly
  • Allow ample time to arrive at your lesson meeting area

PREPARING YOUR CHILD FOR A LESSON

  • Practice Makes Perfect - Prepare little ones ahead of time by practicing with unfamiliar outerwear, layers, helmets and goggles. Make sure your child can easily dress and undress themselves prior to their lesson.
  • Fuel Up - Make sure your child is well-rested, well-fed and hydrated on lesson day. Skiing and snowboarding requires a lot of energy for success. Consider placing their favorite snack in their pocket for added calories and comfort.
  • Talk About It - Take the opportunity to prepare little ones by talking about what to expect, where you will be, and when you will be back to pick them up at day's end. Answer their questions to assure a higher comfort level.

DRESSING FOR YOUR LESSON

  • Socks - You only need ONE pair of socks. Sport specific socks are preferred, however any sock that is thin, smooth (unribbed) and over the calf will do the job. Avoid cotton. Multiple pairs of socks are not warmer and will wrinkle and bunch up, causing considerable discomfort in boots.
  • Long Underwear - Synthetic or wool blend moisture-wicking long underwear (top and bottom) is best. Avoid cotton materials as it absorbs and holds water close to the body, robbing the body of heat!
  • Outerwear - Sport specific pants and jackets are recommended. Ski and snowboard outerwear should be made from water-resistant or waterproof, breathable fabric and allow movement without restriction.
  • Boots - Do not leave your boots in the car (or equivalent) overnight. They will be very difficult to get into and are unlikely to warm up during the day.
  • Mittens/Gloves - Waterproof mittens or gloves are best, avoid knit variations. Not all winter gloves are waterproof, so be sure to check. In general, mittens are warmer.
  • Neck Gear - A neck buff, balaclava, or gaiter is recommended to have on or tucked in a pocket. The weather can change rapidly in the mountains and having one available can make the difference between cold faces and warm, smiling ones. Scarves are not recommended, they are dangerous as they can catch on the lifts and other objects.
  • Helmet - Helmets offer added protection, and are required for all lesson participants ages 17 and younger. They also provide added warmth on cold days and are usually vented for milder days.
  • Eye Protection - Choose quality eyewear with 100% Ultra-Violet protection. Goggles are preferred, especially on storm days, they are more secure and protect from snow, wind and other objects. Sunglasses are also acceptable, especially on warm sunny days.
  • Sun Protection - Apply sunscreen liberally and often to all exposed skin and use UV protected lip balm. The altitude and reflection of the snow from the snow increases intensity and exposure, even on cloudy days. SuperGoop! sunscreen is for sale in both Legacy Sports and Canyon Mountain Sports.
